Couldn't have wished for better conditions in the ladies comp on Tuesday! On my way round rough was being mown and grass surrounding bunkers cut back, surely this is unfair? I mean everyone's meant to play the 'same' course.
Obviously this has to be done at some point - but during a competition? Perhaps the day/night before would be more appropriate.
Wonder if the same thing happens during the mens comps... *doubtful*

If you want the course to be playing the same I am sure the committee can discussion having the tee time for the ladies comp start at 1:30 in the afternoon once the green staff have finished for the day? Then people who want to play casual games on a different course would be more than happy to do so on a Tuesday morning !

Sounds pretty logical to me. Saying that, there must be some mens comps held in the morning, all I was saying is I doubt that there would be as much interference whilst they were competing. It's not as though it's a big issue or anything, keeping the course at its best is the priority, just thought it was worth a mention as others have raised the question too.

"Wonder if the same thing happens during the mens comps... *doubtful* "............ Iit does indeed happen in mens comps. During the midweek medal today we had the greenkeepers working throughout, and of course in doing so the course was constantly changing. It's just something you have to accept if you want the course maintained properly and I would much rather have it that way than the alternative....

Not wanting to sit on the fence but...I can see both sides here, the course should be the same throughout a competition day, excepting general traffic on greens etc. However, I do accept the need for the lads to get out their and get on with their jobs. On that note I must say that I have found it pretty rare to be held up at Tynemouth by a greens keeper doing work while I am playing. At a previous (local) club it was always the case and very rarely did a round pass without us being held up. ( And it was not in better nick than Tynemouth).

im also sitting on the fence isnt the challenge of golf being able to judge conditions on the course at any time and it will change during the round, rain etc. the greenkeepers are working very hard and they will be working to a schedule set to them by a 'higher power' but it is unfortunate that it falls on any competition day. at the end of the day it makes the round more interesting so that cant be bad

Once again I find it highly irritating that the course was being altered in the first two qualifying rounds of the ladies club championships. Not only this but I played on Sunday and the flag positions hadn't even been changed for the Monday. I mean driving down the 13th for example, there was a green keeper right in the middle of the fairway who signalled it was alright to drive off, what?! (I mean occasionally I do hit the ball straight lol!) After my round I watched the two that were behind me play down the 18th and just before one of them was about to hit their approach shot into the green, one of the tractors drove right in front of them, (between the players and the green!) Come on, this isn't on, no doubt it'll be a completely different story in the mens comp, UNBELIEVABLE!

Would have to agree that course maintenance should be left to days when comps (any gender) are not on, and especially club championship qualifiers.
However, I hope you're not suggesting that if the maintenance lads were to do the same this Sunday Bex then that would make it fair??!!!

Oh no i'm not suggesting that at all! I was just highlighting that Sunday will invariably be a different story when in fact both the mens and women's club championship qualifiers (or any other mens and women's comps for that matter) should have the same priority as one another.

Had to laugh when I read this, what a joke! How do you expect any golf course to have the 'same condition for everyone'? Good luck if you find one that the greenkeepers ''cut the rough the night before''!!! Am I not right in saying that most ladies competitions are through the week - when greenkeepers are working - and mens are at the weekends - when greenkeepers are off?! If there are mens competiton through the week then i'm sure work will be taking place then too! As stated above, i'm sure there would be plenty of visitors happy to play when the tee is booked during the week!
