Kevin , no offense was taken regarding the age issue , it was you that implied that "retired members" could amble in any time on a Saturday . I also did not imply that you did not vote i just pointed out that 160 members did . I fully understand and agree that "all members" dont work 9-5 . Your decision to play at 6.30 in the morning to play a round in 3.5 hours is entirely your choice as it is mine to play at 12.30 , no need for apologies at all , also appreciate that you dont use a "aka" . And finally its "David" not Bob Cheers

..................."As to the complex thoughts of some members "with little or no time to hang around" I would not like to comment on there social / family timescale commitments. What i would say is that it is of little or no concern to other playing groups who managed to organize time to suit there sport. "
That's as maybe, but it doesn't get away from the fact that some of us do have work and family commitments which puts us under pressure to juggle our time. I for one wish I had more time to devote to golf on a competition day but that is simply not the case. Fortunately 'Er Indoors is very understanding and I usually do have the flexibility to "hang around", within reason. However I don't just see the issue from my own perspective.

As in my last comment over 90% of members playing in Saturday Competitions have work and family commitments , not just my perspective . Dont even want to start to go into husband and wife relations relating to timescales for "hanging around " on a Saturday .

Mine is genuine by the way, Sadly though I have none of the talent of the other one......

Personally i think the ball tube is a great idea, but is not perfect. A few weeks ago,1 ball ahead of me in the tube, then 6,yes 6 members went to the tee box. Senior members may I add. It's abuse like this that really annoys people. With regards to Competition days, why not have tee times until 2pm(Saturdays) and people can use the tube after that. In my experience the majority of the 1st tee rush is over.

It's abuse like this that really annoys people. With regards to Competition days, why not have tee times until 2pm(Saturdays) and people can use the tube after that. In my experience the majority of the 1st tee rush is over. It does drive you mad. The other morning I pulled into the car park - only one other car there, a single person, and a ball in the tube. As my playing partner hadn't yet arrived I waited as another car pulled into the car park and another lone golfer put his ball in the tube. My partner then arrived and I put our ball in the tube (3rd in line) and we got ready. Next thing we know there's cars pulling in and a dozen golfers appearing from all over, heading to the first tee. It was another half hour before we got off. It's clear that groups of golfers take it in turns to be first down and put a ball in the tube for the rest of their group. If people persist in doing this the whole system will break down and my playing partners and I will just jump the queue and if anyone has a problem they can take it up with us on the first tee. Let's see where that gets us.

This thread has had a good run for it's money. The online booking system is, we're told, due to be up and running by the end of the month. Thereafter, for good or bad, the ball tube will disappear and mercifully, we'll be spared the prospect of punch ups on the splendid new first tee!!

To be fair I was thinking about a frank and meaningful discussion followed by a rousing chorus of Roll Out The Barrel, rather than fisticuffs.

Some great comments here, and as pointed out by Kev - It's good to see the forum being used to discuss topical issues.
My thoughts on the matter are thus: If the current system was not abused then it would be more than fit for purpose. By this I mean all of the members (and visitors) who choose to ignore the rules! It is clearly stated next to the ball tube that no ball should be placed in the tube until at least 2 members of the playing party are present and ready to play (not verbatim but something along those lines).
Yet more often that not, and especially on a Saturday morning people turn up and put a couple of balls in for their party and others in their 'group'. Time and time again I have arrived pre 7am to see more balls in the tube than there are bags 'queued' up around it!!!
If people can't respect and show consideration for other members of the club then I think the committee have little option than to take it out of their hands... although as pointed out, this will no doubt be abused also with people booking time slots and not showing up etc.

PS - Maybe the club would like to consider an exclusion of accounts which hold anonymity? An approval process for all new accounts could rule out the AKAs...

Anyone heard anything about these workshops to allow input and feedback on the website and booking system?

PS - Maybe the club would like to consider an exclusion of accounts which hold anonymity? An approval process for all new accounts could rule out the AKAs... I don't think it really matters about AKAs. Some folk prefer to let off their salvoes from deep cover, others don't mind and stand by their comments. If AKAs are banned, I think there would be a serious reduction in contributions to the forum. As it is there aren't that many users. Plenty of people 'lurking' though
